At blogspot if you have a long post and if you wish to show it  short on main page and to create a link of read more or continue reading, as you may have seen on different blogs, you can use jump break option which is available in new post editor of blogspot.
Incase if you are using old editor, youc can still break the post by  typing word 'more' inbetween tag as given above , in edit html mode of your post .
